ADULT: Wingspan 18 to 25mm. The forewings are brown with an obvious white, pointed median longitudinal streak. The lower edge of this streak has a central projection.  A second line is angulated and there is a white, triangular sub-apical spot. Also of note are several terminal longitudinal black marks and a metallic cilia. Hindwings are grey. LARVA: Feeds on grasses. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and easily disturbed by day.  HABITAT: Dry or sandy heaths where Wavy Hair Grass (Deschampsia flexuosa) grows. FLIGHT PERIOD: July and August. STATUS:A local species in England, Scotland and Ireland.
